Windows Vista Service Pack 1 [Featured Windows Download]

Windows Vista only: As we mentioned earlier today, Microsoft is releasing/has released Windows Vista Service Pack 1 to Windows Update today.
The update, which promises several improvements to Vista, is available either through Windows Update or through direct downloads from Microsoft (linked below).
While it seems that SP1 is taking its sweet time showing up for many people in Windows Update, the 32- and 64-bit standalone installers are available now.
If you give the update a go, let’s hear what improvements stand out and how you’re liking them in the comments.

Unreleased iPhone 2.0 May Already Be Hacked

The as-yet unreleased second iteration of iPhone hardware may already be compromised, reports Engadget and News.com.
Members of the ‘iPhone Dev Team’ have (supposedly) made use of the recently released SDK to gin up a Beta 2.0 software hack.
“Unlike previous hacks, this one isn’t specific to the latest firmware version, it exploits the way that Apple designed the iPhone’s main bootloader.
According to the iPhone Dev Team, the iPhone verifies whether or not firmware code has been signed with an RSA certificate before allowing it to be written to memory.
The team has apparently figured out a way to disable that check and allow unsigned code to be written to memory.”

Tennis Ball Cannon is a Dog’s Best Robotic Friend

Now, a beer launching fridge I can understand, but a tennis ball cannon?
I find it amusing when someone spends a tremendous amount of time and effort building something that can automate basic functions—like throwing a tennis ball to a wiener dog.
But the results speak for themselves.
It is an inspiration for lazy people everywhere.

Wii sees homebrew hackery aplenty, official update

It’s only been a short while since we saw the first successful attempts at Wii homebrew, but things now look to have busted wide open, with hacks seemingly turning up left and right these days.
Most notably, the folks from the GameCube Linux project have recently let loose a proof of concept Linux “mini-distro” that makes use of the now infamous Twilight Princess hack to turn the Wii into a tiny (and so far not very useful) Linux box.
If that’s a bit too much you, however, you may be interested in some of the tamer homebrew fare that recently made its debut, including an MP3 player and, you guessed it, an SNES emulator.
In related news, Nintendo also just pushed out an official updated to the Wii OS (version 3.2), but contrary to what the timing would suggest, it apparently doesn’t do anything to block you from getting your homebrew fix.

Eee PC hacked to accommodate 1.2GHz Pentium M processor

In case you haven’t noticed, the Eee PC has quickly become a favorite among folks that like to, shall we say, customize things, and it now looks like you can chalk up another big modification to the list of operations the laptop has gone under.
This latest come to us from one “guryhwa,” who managed to cram a 1.2GHz Pentium M processor into the laptop, giving it a bit of boost of the stock Celeron.
Needless to this, this particular hack involves some soldering and a good deal of guts, but you apparently at least don’t have to make any modifications to the BIOS.
Without any changes, however, the processor only runs at 840MHz, although guryhwa’s apparently working to improve that.

Twitter hacked?

Not sure what’s going on over at Twitter, but when I attempt to access the site, each new refresh logs me in as some other seemingly random user, generates a seemingly random series of users I’m not “following,” and the top post shown says something about a tiny penis, and following a hack, no matter how many refreshes I hit.
