My alma mater, CodeJacked.com, explains how you can shave 30 seconds off of each reboot by holding the shift key while restarting Windows XP or Vista.
Sometimes, you need to reboot Windows (e.g. when installing new software), but there is no need to restart BIOS, too. However, the default is to reboot both. (That’s called doing a “cold boot,” rather than a “warm boot.”) There’s a trick that works on both XP and Vista to get it to do a warm boot instead, thus saving you 30 seconds per cycle.
As a heads-up, if you’ve got a complex hardware setup you could possibly run into some trouble with a warm boot. If any BIOS experts out there can shed some light on when you would (and would not) want to use a warm boot, let’s hear it in the comments.

In a move which will bolster your undoubtedly high sensations of “faith” in the US voting process, a group of University of California researchers have just hacked their way through security on nearly every voting machine certified by the state of California. According to Secretary of State Debra Bowen, who initiated these tests, the team was able to “bypass physical and software security in every machine they tested.” The group, which was sanctioned by the state, was given full access to the machines, as well as their source code and manuals, leaving some to argue that the test doesn’t accurately depict how vulnerable the machines are — because we all know how hard it is for hackers to get their hands on that kind of stuff. The report will affect whether or not Bowen approves the systems for use throughout California in its upcoming presidential primaries. It looks like 2008 is going to be an exciting year, to say the least.

NASA HACKER Gary McKinnon, the ex-systems administrator accused of conducting the biggest military hack of all time, has succeeded in his bid to appeal to the House of Lords.
The US wants him to face trial in the US for the hacking incident and so far every court in the UK has backed his extradition.
According to Computerworld, McKinnon has a chance before the House of Lords, which is the highest court in Blighty, to stop the extradition.
So far McKinnon and legal team have attempted to convince the courts that the US authorities acted in an “oppressive” manner to secure his removal from the UK.
He said that since the alleged offences took place in the UK, he should stand trial in Blighty. In their last hearing his lawyers claimed that under human rights law he had a right to be tried in the UK.
They said that US investigators attempted to force him to accept secret plea bargain by threatening him with a long prison sentence if he did not collaborate.

A couple weeks ago I sent out some informal emails to people asking for feedback on the new logo. This feedback was pretty helpful, so I figured I’d open things up even more and ask you all about it on the blog.
1. Do you like the new logo more than the old one? Is it an improvement?
2. Would you proudly wear the new logo on a t-shirt?
3. If the new logo was different, would you be more likely to wear a H4CKER.cc t-shirt?
4. What are some examples of logos that you think really kick some ass? (Please provide links, if you can.)
Thanks all. Feel free to be open and honest with your feedback. We really want to know what you think.
