Hewlett-Packard continuó liderando la venta de PCs en el segundo trimestre de 2007, mientras que Dell sigue en la lucha y Lenovo, Acer y Toshiba mostraron signos positivos, con una tasa de crecimiento del mercado mundial de PCs cercano al 12,5% según el estudio de mercado de IDC.
HP sigue firme en la cabeza de los fabricantes con 11,3 millones de unidades vendidas obteniendo una cuota de mercado del 19,3%. Dell bajó un 5% con respecto al año anterior con 9,5 millones de PCs, pero continúa en el segundo puesto.
Dell está en una fase pronunciada de caída aunque al menos ha tomado medidas para intentar recuperarse. La más atrevida porque rompe con su modelo tradicional de venta directa, es ofrecer una línea de productos en la cadena Wal-Mart, el vendedor minorista más grande del mundo. Otra más pintoresca y de menor relevancia fue el anuncio de “colorear” los portátiles. De momento no ha dado tiempo para ver el impacto en la cuenta de resultados que el tirón de Wal-Mart pueda tener.
Entretanto para HP siguen las buenas perspectivas. Según el analista de IDC Loren Loverde, la compañía ha experimentado un “crecimiento rápido, y tienen campo libre para seguir en lo más alto”. “Si miramos donde crecen, con grandes avances en USA a pesar de un mercado relativamente suave, observamos que claramente se aprovechan de las desgracias de Dell”, afirmó.
Lenovo también ha subido considerablemente arrebatando a Acer el tercer puesto, con buenos resultados sobre todo en el área de Asia y el Pacífico. Además “desde la adquisición de la división de PCs de IBM, la firma china ha perdido negocio fuera de Asia, por lo que los últimos datos en los que se observa una cierta recuperación son realmente excelentes”.

Audio is auto calibrated to your room, as with most compact surround sound systems, and Bravia televisions will sync for super easy input calibration. HDMI carries a signal from the integrated upconverting DVD player, which handles DivX, SACD, and MP3s.
As for now, the X10 lacks any info on price or HDMI inputs.

Windows only: In addition to reording your Windows taskbar items, previously mentioned Taskbar Shuffle can now reorder your system tray icons as well.
As much as I liked previous versions of Taskbar Shuffle, its footprint always seemed a little too big to gain startup privileges.
After taking a look at the latest, though—which includes taskbar reordering, system tray reordering (by holding Ctrl while dragging), and middle-click window button closing—Taskbar Shuffle has more than proved itself worth the 6MB memory footprint its uses.

Look, we’re fine with Apple gloating about the security of OS X in their Mac vs. PC adverts.
After all, we have yet to see a large-scale worm released into the Macintosh community.
However, the fact that a worm hasn’t been released on a Windows-esque scale likely has less to do with Apple’s superior coding than the size of their market share, i.e., OS X is a smaller target.
That might soon change, however. A vulnerability has reportedly been found and more importantly, exploited by an “independent researcher” known only as “InfoSec Sellout.”

Apparently, a previously undisclosed vulnerability in the OS X mDNSResponder (which Apple has patched before) allowed Sir Sellout to cobble together a worm dubbed “Rape.osx.” InfoSec Sellout claims to have released the worm into a controlled environment thereby infecting a network of about 1,500 OS X systems by nabbing root and dumping a text file as an evidentiary foot print.
However, the worm’s author claims that it can be broadly weaponised with a payload of choice across both PPC and Intel-class Macs with just a bit more work.
InfoSec Sellout will disclose the vulnerability to Apple only after his/her “research is complete” and after an appropriate level of compensation (er, InfoSec Ransom?) received.
Dubious as that sounds, for good or for worse, it’s the way the game’s currently played.

La idea es original, aunque ya en otras ocasiones se ha tratado de dar un aspecto visual a la gigantesca red de Internet.
En este caso el autor ha seleccionado a las webs más relevantes – en su opinión, claro – para irlas clasificando en distintos grupos. En lugar de los tradicionales grupos como los gases nobles o los metales nos encontramos con los buscadores, los agregadores, los blogs e incluso los sistemas operativos.

If you’ve been itching to get your hands on a new flavor of Windows, or if you’re just sick and tired of being teased by that release candidate, the wait for Microsoft’s Windows Home Server is drawing to a close.
Reportedly, the firm has released the software to manufacturing, where it should flow down and hit pre-fabricated boxes “in late September and early October.”
According to Joel Sider, senior product manager, the move to RTM means that the company has “wrapped up WHS and handed it off to its internal distribution teams and hardware partners.”
Additionally, Iomega and Fujitsu-Siemens were added to the list of OEM partners that already included HP, Gateway, LaCie, and Medion.
Notably, there won’t be a great many alterations in the final release compared to RC1, as the main change stated (aside from squashing a few stray bugs) was that the “domain for remote access is now homeserver.com.”
Hold tight folks, Windows Home Server will be coming your way soon, and the brigade will be led by HP’s forthcoming MediaSmart Server.
