A BLOKE WHO who was going to run a training session at the Blackhat conference was turned aside by US immigration because they claimed he needed a work permit.
Halvar Flake was denied entry to the US for carrying trainings materials for the Blackhat trainings, and intending to hold these trainings as a private citizen instead of as a company.
Writing in his bog he said he was told that he could not return to the US on the visa waiver program so chances are he will not be back for a while.
Flack said that every time he came to the US, he told them he was making a presentation to a conference and hold a trainings classes.
This time he was stopped and interrogated for nearly five hours about who he was and what the nature of my contract with Blackhat is.
The American officials seemed to believe that since their country knew all about Interweb security there was no reason why they needed any Johnny Foreigners to tell them how to do it. They wanted to know why an American could not conduct the training classes.
Ironically if there has been an agreement between his company and Blackhat, then his entry to the US would’ve been “German-company-sends-guy-to-US-to-perform-services”, and everything would’ve been fine. Unfortunately that would take a few weeks to organise.
