As a final year design student at the University of Derby in England, Paul Smith designed a bike trailer that doubles as a generator. “It’s a pure concept in sustainable transport” explains Paul. The trailer concept, called Navitas, is the first to create its own renewable energy. The rear wheel splits 3 ways to become a vertical axis turbine. In addition to the wind power, a compact solar panel helps to provide a charge to the onboard 24V battery “It’s purely for the cyclist adventurer who likes to pedal around the country but also likes a bit of creature comfort,” says Paul.

Sure, you may need a few extra Valium to get you through a 14 hour transatlantic flight in a tube that makes walls pseudo-invisible, but dealing with your neuroses keeps flight attendants at the top of their game. It’s still classier than sticking those glow-in-the-dark stars you used to have on your bedroom ceiling all over the cabin.

Lock your keys in the car? Apparently you can retrieve them with a tennis ball. The trick involves drilling or burning a hole in the tennis ball and then using muscle to force enough air pressure into the door to pop the lock. This sure beats messing around with a coat hanger and it gives you a second reason to keep that old tennis ball on your antenna!

AN ergonomic mouse which stands vertically on the desk has just been released to run around desks everywhere.
Evoluent’s Vertical Mouse 3 was designed with help of boffins from the University of California at Berkeley and it will be on sale for its students.
Unlike other mice, Evoluent’s Vertical Mouse 3 stands vertical and the hand is put into a handshake position where the arm is in 90-degrees form from the tabletop.
Evoluent says that this is the most natural position for the hand to be in and it reduces a magnitude of stress from your hand, wrist and arm. It would also explain why holding a pint glass is so ergonomically satisfying.
There are five programmable buttons on the mouse so that you end up using your entire hand for more things. You could uses the thumb to hit the control alt button so you can do all those stupid control functions a bit quicker. The scroll wheel is available too.
For $80 it looks like good value.

Hace un par de semanas pudimos enterarnos de que en Dell estaban teniendo problemas con los procesadores dual-core y quad-core de Intel, y la empresa ha lanzado una actualización urgente de la BIOS para su gama de máquinas.
Los procesadores afectados por el problema son los Core 2 Duo E4000/E6000, el Core 2 Quad Q6600, el Core 2 Xtreme X6800, el XC6700 y el XC6800. En portátiles son el Core 2 Duo T5000 y T7000, que necesitarán visitar la página de Microsoft, mientras que en el caso de los servidores será adecuado acceder a las BIOS de las placas madre si no funcionan con sistemas operativos Windows. Los procesadores servidores afectados son los Xeon 3000, 3200, 5100 y 5300. O sea, prácticamente todos los modelos de la segunda generación de la microarquitectura Core. Curiosamente el Yonah – el microprocesador Core Duo de 32 bits – no está entre los afectados por este problema.
Nos aseguraron que no habrá ningún reemplazo de componentes, y que en Intel han tomado las medidas necesarias para minimizar el efecto público de este problema, ya que si se hubiera declarado una retirada de procesadores, la reputación de Intel se hubiera ido al garete para siempre.
En cualquier caso, si disponéis de una máquina con una CPU Core, id al enlace de abajo y descargad la actualización. Los procesadores de AMD no están afectados, si es que os lo estábais preguntando.

El inspector de la policía belga consiguió ponerle las manos encima al adolescente que había entrado en su página web. El chico de 17 años consiguió hackear el sitio y dar la orden de cerrarlo, para poco después dejar una nota online.
Aparentemente, no parece que fuese un caso para Poirot. La nota del adolescente decía: “El Spycheck Team debe estar orgulloso de que un chaval de 17 años, haya hackeado la página de la policía belga. La seguridad de su web refleja la falta de competencia de la policía. Webmaster: mejor vaya y revise su sistema. Gobierno: contrate a policías de mayor calibre…”.
La nota dió como resultado que la policía belga pudiese eliminar a cualquier sospechoso que no tuviese 17 años, lo que les ahorró bastante tiempo. Según AP, el chaval fue arrestado el sábado tras una intensa búsqueda por los suburbios de Rhode-Saint-Genes en Bruselas.
Hoy la página de la policía federal dice que el hacker, fue arrestado en solo 24 horas. Así que es menos del estilo de Agatha Christie y más del de el Jack Bauer de Kieffer Sutherland de la tierra de las patatas fritas.
