It looks like Mitsubishi isn’t having much trouble keeping up with Dell these days, now following up that company’s just-announced 2407WFP-HC LCD with its own similarly-spec’d DiamondCrysta RDT241W. As with Dell’s latest, Mitsubishi’s new model appears to boast the same desirable 92 percent color gamut coverage of the NTSC color space, along with the requisite 1920 x 1200 resolution. You’ll also get the same 5 ms response time as the Dell, although the Mitsubishi falls a bit short when it comes to contrast ratio, coming in at 900:1 as opposed to 1,000:1. On the upside, you can get the monitor in your choice of black or white, although there doesn’t appear to be any word yet on what it’ll cost.

Toshiba was concerned that laptop buyers at pretty much every stage of the spectrum might not have enough choices, so it’s done what any self-respecting member of the PC community would: released a bunch of new computers. Currently doing victory laps at Toshiba Direct are the Qosmio F45, gamer-targeted Satellite X205, and the Satellite A215 — the cheapskate of the crew. Some notable specs:
* Qosmio F45-AV412 – 15.4-inch XGA TruBrite display, 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo, HD DVD drive, HDMI out, 802.11a/b/g/n, Intel Mobile GMA X3100, fingerprint reader, built-in webcam
* Satellite X205-S9359 / S9349 – 17-inch XGA TruBrite display (up to 1680 x 1050), Core 2 Duo at 1.8Ghz or 2.0Ghz, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M, 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, Harmon-Kardon speakers w/ subwoofer
* Satellite A215-S4767 / S4757 – 15.4-inch XGA TruBrite display, AMD Turion 64 X2 CPU, DVD-R, Mobility Radeon X1200, 802.11b/g
All in all, truly three of the most middle of the road crowd-pleasers we’ve ever seen. Check out some hands-on pics in the gallery below.

Onkyo kicks ass again with its latest monster receiver, the Integra DTX-8.8. This one has four HDMI 1.3a inputs and two HDMI outputs, and uses the industry standard Silicon Optix chipset to upscale video to 1080p. This unit brings the serious power, able to pump 280 watts into each of its seven channels. Just look at all the inputs on this mutha.
With almost every imaginable input, output and sound/video enhancement option, this ultimate receiver and video switching center is not going to be cheap, shipping in late July for $2692. Four HDMI inputs? Wow. We could think of lots of things to plug into that.

Among the new features that are referenced by the Google Docs’ code, the most important seems to be the integration with online knowledge bases. Google Docs will let you access Merriam-Webster’s dictionary and thesaurus directly from a document. You’ll also be able to read articles from Encyclopedia Britannica. It’s rather curious that Google didn’t opt for everyone’s favorite encyclopedia, Wikipedia, and choose the oldest English-language encyclopedia still in print, but also an encyclopedia hard to access online for free. Britannica has an odd policy of allowing you to read an article for free only if you place a link to the article in a web page and click on that link.

Nope, these olive-green Converse standing outside an Apple store in NYC don’t belong to John Dvorak. They belong to a guy called Johnny Vulkan who has flown over from London and is currently in pole position to grab the first iPhone from the Soho branch on Friday. And it’s all for a good cause…
Keep A Child Alive, a charity that campaigns to bring anti-retroviral drugs to African kids with AIDS will get the proceeds from the sale of the iPhone, once Mr Vulkan has flogged it on eBay. So if you see him, shake that man’s hand and tell him he’s Top Banana.
And if you want to donate to Keep A Child Alive, then you can do so here. Oh, and Steve, if you’re reading this, then why don’t you be a love and match the final eBay total?

The freshened up system is due to ship late next month, and while you can get your own for $2,099, the upgraded graphics rig alone will set you back another $600.
