If one retailer’s experiences on lagging sales wasn’t enough bad news for the HD DVD camp, then the fact that Blu-ray outnumbers HD DVD players 5 to 1 probably should push them to a night of heavy drinking.
According to research group Digital Entertainment Group, there are 1.5 million Blu-ray players in the US. That’s made up of 100,000 standalone players and 1.4 million PS3s. As for HD DVD, there are 150,000 Xbox 360 HD DVD players and 150,000 standalone players.
So if you look at it, the Xbox 360 is at the same time doing a great job of pushing the HD DVD format and doing a very poor job of pushing the HD DVD format.

Couple these numbers with Blockbuster’s Blu-ray endorsement, and things don’t look so rosy for HD DVD. That’s a shame too, because we were slightly favoring HD DVD (the format, and standard) over Blu-ray. But at this point, we just want a winner—any winner—so we can get this ridiculous war over with.

Se ha descubierto un gusano que se copia a si mismo en dispositivos extraíbles como las memorias flash USB.
El gusano denominado LiarVB-A busca dispositivos extraíbles como disqueteras y memorias USB creando un fichero oculto, con nombre autorun.inf, que se autoejecuta cada vez que el dispositivo se conecta a un PC con Windows.
Una vez que infecta el sistema, genera un fichero HTML en el disco con información relativa al SIDA y al VIH.
Según Graham Cluley, consultor senior en materia tecnológica de Sophos, la mayor parte de los gusanos se crean para facilitar la entrada al sistema de los hackers, en cambio, este ha sido diseñado únicamente para divulgar información sobre el SIDA.
“Aunque los creadores de este malware no buscan un beneficio económico e incluso pueden pensar que están divulgando un mensaje muy importante, lo cierto es que estan vulnerando la ley. Es posible que en el futuro aparezca más malware graffiti, creado con funciones propagandísticas de creencias políticas, religiosas o cualquier otra corriente buscando un trampolín para darse a conocer”. El gusano incluye un mensaje informando de que no causa daños.
Se puede leer: “Este fichero no realiza ningún cambio perjudicial para el PC. Este fichero NO ES PELIGROSO ni para el PC ni para el disco USB. Este fichero no modifica ningún dato ni ficheros del PC o disco USB. Así que no se preocupe y sea feliz!”.

Google ha comprado Zenter, una compañía proveedora de software para la creación de presentaciones de diapositivas. Zenter se une a Tonic Systems otro software similar comprado por Google el pasado mes de abril.
El servicio permite traspasar presentaciones de Microsoft PowerPoint, así como coger fotos e información de la web para crear presentaciones que puedan ser vistas y compartidas en la web. Los usuarios también pueden crear sus propias producciones en directo, similares a muchos de los competidores de Microsoft PowerPoint que han surgido en los últimos tiempos.
Mientras que Google aún no ha dado una fecha para la presentación oficial del servicio, los usuarios de Gmail han podido ver, dentro de la ventana de mensaje, archivos enviados en PowerPoint sin tener instalado el programa en su ordenador.

Lenovo, tercer fabricante de PCs del mundo, ha firmado un acuerdo de patrocinio con el equipo AT&T Williams -que compite en el Campeonato Mundial de Fórmula 1-, para convertirse en nuevo sponsor principal y socio tecnológico de la escudería. El anuncio del acuerdo se ha producido durante la presentación del nuevo coche AT&T Williams para la temporada 2007, que ha tenido lugar hoy en la sede del equipo cerca de Oxford, Reino Unido.

While we prefer keyboards like the Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000, the nostalgic types who learned to type on old Commodore 64s may want to be able to use that keyboard to punch out blog posts. Now that’s possible.
All you have to do is get one C64 keyboard, a couple circuits, some open source software, and a bunch of free time. When you’re done, you get one dirty C64 keyboard hooked up to your machine. The only problem is the lack of function keys, Num Pad, and various other niceties that we’ve come to expect from our keyboards over the last 20 years.
