Two burners from Samsung today, one of which claims to be the world’s fastest burner at 20x. The SH-S203 is a Serial ATA burner that supports DVD+R/-R, DVD+R, and every other CD/DVD format (including DVD-RAM). The most notable feature, obviously, is its 20x DVD+R and DVD-R burning, but DVD-RAMs burn at 12x, DVD+R DL burn at 16Xx, and DVD-R DL burns at 12x.
You’ll have to find blank media that supports burning that fast, of course, but that shouldn’t be too bad. The drive itself is only $70.
The other drive, a $150 slot-loading affair, gives you a USB connection and actually supports those 8cm discs that always get stuck in our MacBook Pros whenever we trick Mark into thinking they work.
The SE-T084L will have burning support up to 8X DVD+R, 6X DVD+R DL, 8X DVD+RW, 4X DVD-R DL, 6X DVD-RW, and 5X DVD-RAM. Obviously slower than the desktop drive, this slot-loader will give you burning on the go whenever you need to, you know, burn on the go.
Enorme ataque de malware en Italia, que ha afectado ya a más de 10.000 páginas. Según los expertos en inseguridad de Trend Micro la mayoría de los sitios pertenecen al mismo proveedor de hosting.
Trend Micro asegura que el ataque se lanza por una etiqueta Iiframe maliciosa insertada en lugares estratégicos de la página.
A los visitantes de estas páginas se les machaca con grandes cantidades de descarga de malware hasta que el software de los hackers es capaz de encontrar una vulnerabilidad y tomarla como objetivo.
Los de Trend dicen que este “Italian job” es interesante por la forma en la que ha comprometido a tantos sitios web en un periodo de tiempo tan corto.
El equipo de inseguridad sostiene que en términos de ingeniería social, los hackers han logrado el crimen perfecto ya que la mayoría de los sitios web habían sido relativamente seguros antes de este incidente. Entre los sitios hackeados se encuentran portales relacionados con la moda, algunos con contenido adulto, y varias comunidades online de asuntos variados.
Por supuesto no hubo minis involucrados ni una intensa trama final.

Panasonic just rolled out a new 45nm chip, replacing the older 65nm version used in its previous products. What’s this mean to you? A few impressive things, actually. The new chip boasts far less energy consumption (nearly half of its predecessor), better 1080p compression/decompression support, and the ability to process two 1080p screens simultaneously by way of the chip’s multi-decoding technology.
The higher compression rate means that more compact HD signals can be blasted over a network for a better overall picture, which is good news because HD signals are already beating Galactus at Look Who’s Bigger. Hopefully we’ll see these chips being used in a variety of Panasonic products soon.

Thinkpad reserve’s website just went live, and the $5000 limited edition PC’s details have just become clear. It basically sounds like an X series, wrapped in leather, and bundled with an hyper-active executive service plan.
The main selling points of the plan being 24/7 executive customer service, available by phone, email, and by IM with one touch of a hard button. They’ll provide on site service within 4 hours, or the next day if you’re too far from a service center. And can help lazy, technophobe CEOs back up their machines. Or replace the whole thing if they accidentally squish it while jumping into their private jets within the 3 year warranty. (Much of this, I suspect, is available with some insane service plan, anyhow.)
The idea behind the leather casing is that it breaks in, rather than breaks down like traditional PC materials. (It also retain tons of heat, but the website doesn’t mention this.)

The PS3 was finally launched in Korea this weekend, and the fabled 80GB model was what was trotted out for the masses. The release party was a distinctly Sony affair: lots of pomp and circumstance, scantily clad models, and more press than public in attendance. But hey, 80GB PS3s!
Maybe those geniuses at Sony will swap out the 60GB for the 80GB here, keep the price the same, call it some form of price cut, and expect sales to rise. Note to Sony: They won’t. Lower the price, dudes. I’m thinking $400 is a nice round number. Let’s make it happen.

El diario australiano The Age ha realizado un estudio sobre las 10 capitales más tecnlógicamente avanzadas de todo el mundo basándose en parámetros como las líneas de banda ancha disponibles y su coste. Ninguna de nuestro país, claro está.
El informe toma en cuenta otros factores tales como el acceso a redes inalámbricas – gratuitas o de pago – la adopción de la tecnología por parte de la población y el apoyo del gobierno a esta disciplina, así como la cultura educativa en lo que respecta a la tecnología y el futuro potencial de esas capitales.
Es probable que a muchos se os ocurran un par de nombres o tres que sí están en la lista, pero seguro que nunca hubiérais pensado que Estocolmo o Tallin, la capital de Estonia, estuviesen en la lista.
Pero seguro que no habríais adivinado cuál es la ciudad más tecnológica del mundo: Seúl. En la capital de Corea del Sur disponen de un ancho de banda de 100 Mbps por 40 dólares al mes, y es de lo más normal ver la tele en el móvil, algo que ya hacen 2 millones de surcoreanos gracias a la red WiBro que ofrece 3 Mbps – como el de una ADSL ‘estándar’ española – en servicios de conectividad inalámbrica.
Por detrás se sitúan otras famosas como Tokyo, Singapur o San Francisco, además de otras totalmente desconocidas como New Songdo, una ciudad de Corea del Sur en pleno desarrollo destinada a convertirse una de las capitales más tecnológicas de todo el mundo que ya ha entrado en ese particular ránking.
